  An Analysis of the Advantages of the ˇ°2+2 Modelˇ±
 
 

The operational management of the occupational annuity fund is a complicated process, since on the one hand, it involves many parties concerned, and each party concerned has different legal relationships and assumes different responsibilities. And on the other hand, each party concerned may play more than one role in the specific operation of the occupational annuity fund, one can assume overlapping responsibilities and business areas which makes processing the occupational annuity fund more diversified and complicated.

At present, most standard occupational annuity plans operated in China adopt the ˇ°split-upˇ± or ˇ°2+2ˇ± Modelˇ±. The ˇ°split-upˇ± model means that trustee, investment manager, account manager and custodian are served by four independent institutions respectively, having corresponding occupational annuity operational management qualifications. The clients shall firstly select a trustee, which may be a corporate trustee institution, and may also set up an occupational annuity council. Then, the trustee will delegate remaining duties respectively to the selected three institutions.
